- design is to have a planned or arranged visual pattern that includes visual elements.
- the content is imperative to the successfulness of the design-- this includes subject, narrative and concept.
- also the form of design or the manipulation of materials allows for the designs meaning to better shine through.
- the principals of design stems from : point/line/plane
- from that we have things like unity, focal point, scale, and proportion
-
- analysis: communicating and idea and solving problems
- material explorations: experimenting visually
-perception: inspiration such as nature, cultural, or history.
- compare and contrast
- 2-Dimensions are: length and breadth
To establish marks on a flat planar surface, that has no depth except
for the illusionary kind. In the 2-d world we can organize visual
elements to create harmony and unity on a picture plane.
- in 3-Dimensional design: we see length (vertical direction up or down)
breadth (horizontal direction)
and depth (transverse direction)
- in 3-Dimensional design: we see length (vertical direction up or down)
breadth (horizontal direction)
and depth (transverse direction)
**We live in a 3-dimensional world: what we see is not a flat picture plane
only, but an expanse of objects in space, with physical depth and third
dimension.**
- form in space
-surface of relief
-depth of relief
-shadow and depth.
-point of view
-spacial relations
- organization
-economy
-continuity
-implied structure
-random chance and order
-and predictability
- the 3-Dimensional world
-we must view the 3D world from different angel views and distances
- FORM AND OR FUNCTION?
- which is more important?
: every thing in the physical world has been designed
OUR PROJECTS:
Four Projects:
Project 1: Modular surface fabrica'on as a dynamic mul'ple-structure (Design Team)
Project 2: Serial planes: Biomorphic structure: Addi've and Subtrac've methods: Architectonic
Project 3: Platonic and Archimedean solids: Paper, balsa wood and wire kine'c mobile
Project 4: Stop mo'on anima'on: Integra've Final Project:
All previous material explora'ons will be integrated
